Following unanimous passage of a more specific ordinance regarding animals defecating on public spaces, Granbury’s law-abiding dogs are now politely requesting to their owners, “After we do our business, please do yours.”
With the growing number of outdoor events, the City has been receiving more complaints about dog owners not picking up after their dogs after they “do their business.” City parks and the Langdon Center grounds are two of the locations for many of the complaints. The revised ordinance makes it unlawful for a pet owner to not clean up after their pet on any property except their own. It is a Class C misdemeanor.
One of Granbury’s dogs (who asked to remain anonymous) said, “I don’t understand it. They take us out. There are bag dispensers and trash cans. After we do our business, why don’t the owners do theirs? Pick up after us.”
City staff hope that publicizing the new ordinance, especially in areas where it is not being followed, will be enough to correct the behavior of violators.
