Starting Monday, January 27, Atmos Energy crews and contractors will begin conducting safety surveys of their natural gas distribution system in Granbury. These surveys will occur nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and are expected to take six nights to complete.
Crews will use advanced mobile leak detection units to measure and map methane levels in the area. These units are white SUVs equipped with flashing lights and clearly marked with the Atmos Energy logo or the words “Utility Contractor.” Residents may notice these vehicles driving slowly through neighborhoods during the nighttime hours.
If a natural gas leak is detected, the crew will assess and classify it as follows:
Grade 1 (hazardous): Immediate action will be taken to eliminate the hazard.
Grades 2 and 3: These leaks will be monitored and scheduled for repair according to state and federal safety guidelines.
