Building maintenance is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all city-owned facilities including: City Hall, municipal service center, airport, two fire stations, public restrooms, and 43 other properties with at least one structure on each. This department is also responsible for cleaning City Hall, municipal service center, airport, two fire stations, and American Hall.
Additional responsibilities for the Building Maintenance Department include plumbing, HVAC, electrical, remodeling, repair of furniture, security of buildings (changing out locks), fire alarm and emergency sprinkler systems, car wash, water fountains, toilets, daily cleaning, preparation for special events and meetings, niceties such as making tea and coffee for employees on a daily basis, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment for all city employees and visitors.
This department is responsible for performing any function that is needed for any festival, special event, or parade set-ups such as tents, stages, fencing, safe pedestrian walkways, and trash receptacles.
Other duties include maintaining the storage of festival items, overstock of old office equipment, building material and supplies; preparing and assisting with the auction / sale of city-owned equipment and vehicles, and the demolition of buildings, while salvaging any possible materials.
