With the adoption of the historic landmark and district zoning ordinance, the City of Granbury has committed efforts to restore and promote the historic character and architecture of the city. The Zoning Ordinance
establishes two historic overlay districts as well as a Historic Preservation Commission
to review adopted policy and proposed development as it relates to historic compatibility and integrity.
The Commission, comprised of historic merchants and homeowners, has created Historic Design Guidelines
utilized to direct historic preservation. The Commission also reviews request for tax exemptions
related to improvements and maintenance of historic properties.
The Community Development Department is responsible for administering adopted design guidelines and policies as they relate to construction and improvements to property within the established historic preservation overlays. Community Development also acts as the liaison between property owners, community organizations, and the Historic Preservation Commission.
