Your Safety
Three governmental bodies, the City of Granbury, Hood County and the State of Texas have formed an uncommon partnership to make an intersection safer.
Following discussions between City and County staff, as well as votes by the City Council and Commissioners Court, in late March a right turn lane is being added to Old Acton Highway where it intersects State Highway 4.
Granbury Police Department records show the intersection was the scene of 15 accidents in 2021 and 2022. That may not seem like many, unless you were involved in one of them. “I was going toward Acton on Highway 4 when a car on Old Acton Highway pulled out in front of me,” said Michael Ross. “There was no time to avoid a serious collision. My truck was totaled and they life-flighted the other driver to a Fort Worth hospital.”
Fortunately, neither Ross nor the other driver were critically injured. “I think it was by the grace of God that we all survived the accident.”
In an unusual example of different levels of government working together, the City of Granbury is providing the cost of materials for the new turn lane. Hood County will use its staff and equipment to construct it, then, the State Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will install a traffic light and signs at the intersection.
The signal and right turn lane should help reduce the number of accidents at that intersection.
