This week, the City of Granbury named Department of Public Works Electric Superintendent Kenneth Causey its 2020 Employee of the Year. Causey has been with the City on and off for 30 years, having first started work in 1983.
“(It) was such an honor to receive this award,” Causey said with great humility, “there are so many great employees that work for the city and all are worthy of this award.”
As a boy growing up in South Texas, Causey wanted nothing more than to be with his father, who was a Journeyman Lineman that normally worked alone in those days for Central Power & Light, located in Sabinal, Texas. Causey would work with his dad when he was not attending school. Whether it be stocking or cleaning up the service truck, reading meters, changing services or assisting with transformers, he would help his dad get the job done.
One might say, that from a very early age, his course was set to spend his life in Public Service and the Power Industry, where he has worked for more than 40 years, total.
Currently the City of Granbury’s Electric Superintendent, he is responsible for a $7 million budget, a distribution system that includes more than 90 miles of overhead power lines, 30 miles of underground power lines and three substations.
“He has overseen the reconstruction of several circuits in the city, improving reliability and line loss (the quantity of electricity that is lost through transmission and distribution across the grid), while minimizing service interruptions, and as always providing excellent customer service,” said Causey’s supervisor, Public Works Director Rick Crownover.
"Kenneth Causey is dedicated and well-respected throughout Granbury by the public and his peers,” Crownover said. “Kenny is a team player and can always be counted on to go the extra distance while maintaining a safe work environment for his department and the public!"
Not only are Causey’s managers quick to give him praise, but Causey is quick to recognize his own crew, too.
“I am so blessed to have a great bunch of men working with me that I can depend on,” Causey said of his electrical crew. “The city is a great place to work and I feel that we have a great management team. I am proud to be a city employee. All Praise and Glory to God.”
Although this is Causey’s first Employee of the Year award, his peers are sure this won’t be the last. Along with his plaque, Causey also received a trophy and gift card.
