[ARCHIVED] First Phase of Electricity Delivery System Upgrades, Replacements Starting This Weekend

Contractors working with the City of Granbury’s Public Works Department will begin heavy-duty electricity delivery system replacement and upgrade work starting Saturday (weather-permitting).

The “Electric Reconductor Project” will be broken down into four phases (each in 6-8-week timeframes) and will include replacing power poles, power lines, transformers, and capacitors and breakers. Electric utility customers, both business and residential, should be on the lookout for utility boom trucks and 5-6-man work crews from Turnkey Utilities Company.

The first phase of the project operations will begin at the corner of S. Travis and W. Doyle Streets and move down W. Doyle St. to S. Houston St. Once completed, crews will move on from S. Houston St. to E. Bluff St. (behind the Granbury Opera House).

Much of the work being done will replace aging systems that have been in use since the mid-20th Century. “Our systems throughout the city are already very reliable, but we’ll be replacing old copper wires and power poles with new infrastructure,” said City of Granbury Electric Superintendent Kenneth Causey. “This will improve the reliability of service to our community.”

The four phases of the Electric Reconductor Project work will run through February 2021 and are set to replace aging electrical infrastructure in various portions of the city. Service interruptions, if any, will be minimal and temporary. Crews working should notify those living and working in the affected areas if this becomes necessary.
