[ARCHIVED] City to Begin Phase II of Surface Water Treatment Plant Upgrades

In order to provide drinking water for the community and meet the future needs of Granbury’s growing population, the City of Granbury is progressing into the second phase of upgrades for the City of Granbury Surface Water Treatment Plant.

At the May 15 Granbury City Council meeting, City Council approved the Engineering Services Agreement with Enprotec/Hibbs & Todd, Inc. to proceed with Phase II of the project.

Phase II will increase the plant’s capacity to 5 million gallons of water per day (MGD) from its current 2.5 MGD. Progressing to Phase II will also ensure that the plant continues to meet Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) guidelines for production capacity based on the community’s demand.DJI_0243

To support Phase II, additional major equipment will be installed in the Surface Water Treatment Plant. This includes raw water pump, pretreatment equipment, microfiltration feed pump, microfiltration train, additional microfiltration modules, microfiltration blend pump, low pressure reverse osmosis transfer pumps, reverse osmosis trains, high service pump, new clearwell, and other critical structures.

Enprotec/Hibbs & Todd, Inc. will begin executing necessary agreements in June. Design is expected to be completed within nine months, and construction is expected to take 15 months.

Phase I of the project, which involved the construction of a new Surface Water Treatment Plant that can produce up to 2.5 MGD, was completed in January of 2018 at a cost of $16.4M. The anticipated cost of Phase II of the project is $13.5M.
