[ARCHIVED] Utility Scam Call Warning

The City received multiple calls from citizens on January 4 reporting scam utility calls.  If you receive a call claiming to be from a utility provider (or any other company) asking you to make payment, do not assume it is legitimate.

Tell the caller to provide you with a contact name and number, then call a number for the company from your own records and confirm the validity of the call. You can ask your utility provider to verify whether or not you have an outstanding balance. Do not use a phone number provided by the caller.

If you find out the call is not valid, do not try to call the scammer back. Do not do anything else and nothing else will happen.
