[ARCHIVED] Water Meter Replacement

Granbury Meter Reader department.jpg

In June 201water meter web interface image.jpg7, City of Granbury will begin a city-wide water meter replacement program designed to replace all existing water meters and provide access to an online customer service portal. The customer service portal will present detailed usage history and trends, and enable customer alert programming to track specific areas of interest for utility consumption, as shown in the customer portal example below:

Replacement Process

In June, the City's contractor, Utiliuse, will start replacing existing water meters throughout the City. The installation technicians, who will be wearing badges and vests, must have access to your water meter box to complete the meter exchange. For residential properties, most water meters are found in the front yard, near the curb. Technicians will not need to enter your home. Though you do not need to be home during the meter replacement, a technician will knock on your door to notify anyone present that the meter swap is about to begin. During the replacement, your water will be temporarily shut off for approximately 10-15 minutes while the new water meter is installed. Generally, all work related to the water meter replacement project is completed within the existing water meter box. Once all necessary repairs are completed, each meter box is returned to its pre-existing condition. After the installation, the technician will run a few gallons of water from an outdoor spigot to test the new meter.

After Meter Change-Out

Once water service is restored, the service technician will briefly turn on an outside water spigot to test the new meter. Occasionally, a small amount of air is left in the line, and you may notice a sputtering sound the first time you turn on your water. This should only last a few seconds.

If you encounter any issues, City representatives are available Monday through Friday by calling 817-573-1114, and for after-business-hour emergencies, at 817-588-0488.
